John F. Coughlan
COUGHLAN - John F. passed peacefully in his home on Saturday, September 17, 2016. A lifelong New Yorker, John was born & raised in Manhattan, graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and enlisted in the Navy in 1944 to serve his country during WWII. After 4 years in the Navy, John attended City College on the GI Bill and later received a Master of Education from Pace University. His studies also included semesters abroad at both UCD & Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. John was a dedicated math teacher in the Mount Vernon School System for 35 years. John was very proud of his Irish heritage and was a longtime member of he Tipperary Society in New York. John is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Josephine Bernadette (nee Corkery). He was predeceased by his parents Michael & Bridget (nee Ledden) as well as his two brothers Vincent & Michael. All three Coughlan brothers served honorably during WWII. John lived a long and productive life. He was a wonderful husband, brother, son, and friend. He will be missed. A wake will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 P.M. at Riverdale-on-Hudson, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:45 A.M. on Thursday.
