Andrea Gonzalez
IN LOVING MEMORY OF ANDREA GONZÁLEZ
Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico on November 11,1926, the daughter of Dominga Guzmán and José Guadalupe. She grew up and was educated in the elementary schools of that city and was married twice, starting at eighteen years of age, to Victor López and subsequently to José Quiñonez who died in the Korean War. These unions produced three children, Sonia and William López and José Quiñonez Guadalupe.
She migrated from Puerto Rico to New York City in 1949 to assist her mother already living in the city and soon married José F. Gonzalez, a merchant seaman (1922-2014), who raised her three earlier children. This union of sixty-four years also produced six additional children, José Jr., Milagros (deceased in childhood), Luisa, Evelyn, Miriam, and David González. Andrea worked in the veteran’s hospital in Caguas but was mostly a housewife in New York. Her interests included cooking and sewing, taking care of her children, and if she had continued her education, to attend law school and eventually become a judge. Andrea is lovingly survived by eight children, eighteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two siblings. A loving and caring mother and grandmother.
The children will miss Andrea and their late father, José, dearly. Their hearts desire was to instill love and family unity in their children.
Mother, life’s dearest treasure. You will never be forgotten. Forever in our hearts.
