Margaret "Peg" Van Cleef
Margaret “Peg” Van Cleef, of Bronx NY, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2018, in Marlboro, NY, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 81 years old.
Margaret was born in August 1936, in New York, NY, daughter of the late Andrew and Kathleen Maloney. Margaret was a beloved mother, wife, sister, and grandmother. She retired after many years working as a secretary for the NYS Psychiatric Institute and the Manhattan College School of Engineering. A longtime resident of Riverdale and faithful parishioner of St. Margaret of Cortona Church. She valued family, friends and all the simple pleasures of life. She is survived by her daughters: Debra Ritter of North Pole, AK, Linda Jansen of Yonkers, NY and Onnolee Hitzel (Paul) of Marlboro, NY; her son Ronald Van Cleef of Bronx, NY; her sisters: Anna LoBue (John) of Waukegan IL and Connie McDougall of Wappingers Falls, NY; her grandchildren: Joshua Ritter, Shane Ritter, Onnolee Jansen, Billy Jack Jansen, Dawn Marie Ritter, Heather Scarano, Courtney LaCalamito and Christopher Hitzel; Along with several nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren, as well as her beloved cat Izzy. Margaret was predeceased by her son Gifford “Giffy” Van Cleef, sister Mary O’Shea, and husband Gifford Van Cleef.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, Bronx, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday June 14, 2018 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Ave., Bronx, NY. Interment will follow at Cemetery of the Gate of Heaven, Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation, in memory of Margaret to:
