Christopher Joseph Keane

Christopher Joseph Keane of Riverdale, the Bronx, formally of Ahascra, Lisselton County Kerry Ireland, passed away on Wednesday 12/16/20 at the age of 89 years old.   Born 12/21/30, he was the eldest son of Ellen and Patrick Keane.  He is survived by, Kathleen Scanlon of Lisselton County Kerry, Ireland as well as 22 nieces and nephews in New York, Kerry, Dublin, and England to whom he was a guiding force. He is   predeceased by his brothers and sisters John, Nancy O’Connor, Pascal, Michael, Jerome,  Mossie, Phyllis McNamee, and Mary Anne Barrett.

Chris emigrated to the United States aboard the SS Washington departing Cobh, County Cork, Ireland on 8/11/50 arriving in the Port of New York on 8/17/50.  He entered active military service in the U.S. Army 11/13/51 until 10/29/53 attaining the rank of Corporal while serving in Korea, during the Korean War, and earning the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars and United Nations Service Medal Merit Unit Commendation.  He became a naturalized United States Citizen 2/1/54.  Chris was a proud employee of the United States Postal Service for over 35 years. 

Chris was a long-time member of the Kerrymen’s P&B Association of NY and lifelong supporter of the Kerry Football team.  Chris’ memory will be cherished and kept alive by his large extended family as well as those who knew him as he was known by many and a friend to all. 

Due to the current COVID 19 pandemic and restrictions in place, their will be a viewing for immediate family only prior to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday 12/22/20 at 10:00 a.m. at St Gabriel’s Church in the Bronx, NY, which will be open for all who wish to attend. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Kerryman’s P&B Association-914-2100.
