Patricia Winifred Hess - nee Hogan 3/9/37 - 12/27/20

Patricia was born in Morrisania Hospital in the Bronx and was baptized at St. Peter and Paul Church. She spent most of her childhood in St. Augustine’s parish where she was first married. She began to raise her family in St. Angela Merici parish where her children began school. Patricia remained a proud lifelong resident of the Bronx. She was married to John R. Hughes in 1956 until his death in 1967. Together they had six children; John (Rhonda), Patricia (Peter), Timo, Francis (Maureen), Sarah and Kathleen. She was married to Sherick Hess for 39 years and was a loving stepmother to David (Laura) and Daniel Hess. Predeceased by her parents Francis and Kathleen Hogan (nee McGuinn), sisters Catherine and Mary and brothers Edward and Francis. Patricia is survived by her sisters, Peggy Hanley, Betty Betz, and Hannah McAndrews and her brothers Michael and John. Cherished grandmother of Thomas, Samantha, Rachel, Patrick, Lucy, Harry, Teddy, and Lizzie. Loving great-grandmother to Victoria, Daniel, and Rowan Annabel. Beloved aunt to 41 nieces and nephews. After retiring from teaching in the Archdiocese of New York, Patricia devoted many hours weekly to volunteering at local nursing homes feeding Alzheimer patients or wherever she was most needed. Her most recent volunteer work before the pandemic restrictions was at the John Cardinal O’Connor Clergy Residence, St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Yonkers and The Hebrew Home in Riverdale. A devout member of St. Margaret of Cortona Parish since 1968, Patricia worked many Tuesday Bingo nights, taught religious education, and served as a Eucharistic minister. She will be dearly missed by all who loved her, many who knew and/or worked with her and those who may have run into her on one of her daily walks through the neighborhood. Rest in Peace.

Reposing Monday 2-5 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. Bronx, NY.  Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Committal is private . In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Charities.
