Raymond E. “Ray” Rowe

Raymond E. “Ray” Rowe      December 6, 1946 - March 5, 2020

Raymond E. Rowe of Riverdale, NY passed away on March 5, 2020 at the age of 73 due to complications of heart failure. He is predeceased by his parents, Louis and Louise (nee Schlereth) Rowe, and his loving wife Kathy (nee Fox). He leaves behind his son Ryan, daughter Jeanne Marie, and brother Richard (Karen), in addition to several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

Ray was born and raised in Morningside Heights, Manhattan and was a member of Church of the Ascension Parish, where he served as an altar boy.  He graduated from Commerce High School, and served in Korea for 2 years where he was an Army chef. He worked for over 35 years for The Grand Union Company, where he started as a delivery boy and eventually became a store manager.   After he retired, he often volunteered at local nursing homes and was a poll worker for the local election board.

Ray was a true New Yorker who always had a joke to tell, a funny one-liner, or an anecdote to share.  He loved to make people laugh, and always made friends quickly. He was generous to a fault, never held a grudge, and had a “live and let live” attitude toward life.  He was a die-hard New York Yankees and New York Rangers fan. He adored his late wife Kathy to distraction, and his children will miss hearing him tell them how much he loved them.

Reposing Sunday, March 8th, 2020 from 2-5 and 7-9 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Riverdale, NY.  A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 9th at 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Riverdale, NY.

Ray was an animal loving, proud veteran who had quite a journey with heart ailments, and whose wife died from ovarian cancer. As such, in lieu of flowers, kindly donate in his name to one of the following charities: American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, ASPCA of NY, or The American Legion.
