Raymond William Lynch was born and raised in the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx, NY with his brother Patrick Lynch by their parents, Julia and Raymond Lynch. Their father was a firefighter at FDNY Station Engine 81/Ladder 46 on Bailey Avenue. Ray and Pat attended St. John’s Elementary School and went on to have many odd jobs throughout the neighborhood. In their younger years, Ray and Pat worked at a fish store, a fruit market, Baskin Robbins, and a famous local bingo hall, all along 231st and Broadway.

Following in Pat’s footsteps, Ray went on to work for NYC Transit Authority as a conductor for the A- and D-line for 36 years. Ray was a founding member of the NYC Transit Emerald Society Bronx Division and went on to win several awards during annual St. Patrick’s Day parades. This job and his coworkers meant the world to him. After recovering from heart ailments in February, Ray continued to go to work throughout the pandemic.

Ray was a beloved uncle who went above and beyond for his nephew Michael and two nieces, Kimberly and Jennifer. He was present for everything in their lives and never let a birthday go without a thoughtful card and a few scratch-offs.

He lived on Naples Terrace his entire life, where he remained surrounded by his neighbors and friends who came to know and love him over so many years.

Ray was an outspoken, witty, and big-hearted man who always went out of his way to make people feel loved. He enjoyed fishing, an ice-cold Coors Light, spaghetti and meatballs, the Honeymooners, reading the New York Post newspaper, betting on the Kentucky Derby and the Superbowl (and winning), and rooting for underdog New York sports teams like the Jets and Mets.

A truly one-of-a-kind man, Raymond will be deeply missed. He will live on forever in our hearts and in many, many stories.
