William P. Walsh
William P. Walsh, 78, of Bronx, New York, loving husband, dearest father, devoted grandfather and retired custodial engineer.
William P. Walsh “Billy”, 78, of Bronx, New York passed away peacefully on November 23, 2021.
Billy was born on February 25, 1943 to Maurice and Ellen Walsh. He was raised, along with his older brother John, in Manhattan (Inwood), New York. He married the love of his life, Patricia (Patsy), on May 2, 1964.
As a young man Billy was active in St. Jude’s Parish as a member of the Boy Scouts of America, a camp counselor and volunteer at the annual Bazaar. Billy proudly served for six years in the NYS National Guard, 102nd Engineer Battalion, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then went on to serve in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Billy worked as a salesman at SCM Corp and he then worked for several years with the operating engineers and sandhogs in the water tunnels under New York City. For 25 years, Billy lovingly cared for the Church, School and Convent of Our Lady of Angels Parish, Bronx NY.
Billy, a talented wood-worker, handcrafted treasured gifts for his children, grandchildren, family and friends. His memory will live on in the beautiful Christmas crèches he crafted for all his loved ones. Billy loved fishing and he often could be found on fishing trips with his friends and a six pack of Bud. He was proud of his County Waterford heritage and celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with his “famous” homemade Irish soda bread and thin sliced corned beef. Billy was a life-long Yankee fan and was able to celebrate 18 of their 27 Championships.
Beyond all these talents and interests, Billy’s pride and joy in this life was his family especially Patsy, his wife of 57 years. He lived his life dedicated to those he loved. Family vacations, holiday gatherings, backyard barbecues in Hawthorne, and any activity involving his grandchildren were the true blessings in his life.
But most notable for those of us lucky enough to be part of his life, Billy will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. He was never at a loss for a story or a good saying. He made those around him feel at ease and brought smiles to so many faces.
Billy is predeceased by his parents and his brother John. Billy is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Walsh (nee Donnelly) and his three daughters, Kerry Anne, Erin (David Trainor), Kathleen (Paul Hoey) and his cherished 6 grandchildren, Melissa, Kayla, Billy, John Paul, Emma, and Kristy, who were the absolute lights of his life. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
