Peter James Kane, 92, of Bronx, NY passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2021. Peter is predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Rosa, and daughter, Eileen. Peter is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marjorie. They were married at The Church of Incarnation in Manhattan on September 19, 1953. He is lovingly remembered by his surviving children; Peter (Paula), Michael, Theresa (Michael), Madge (Dennis), Thomas, and James (Lynna); thirteen grandchildren, Christopher, Diane, Steve, Samantha, Caroline, Valerie, Marc, Dennis, Sloan, Kane, Camille, Colin, and Emalyn; four great-grandchildren, Tristan, Blake, Smith, and Grayson; his siblings, Mary, Rose Marie, and Patrick; along with a myriad of nieces and nephews. 

Peter was born on July 13, 1928, in McKeesport, PA to Patrick and Rosa Cain. In 1932, his family moved to Astoria, Queens where they remained until 1943 when they moved to The Bronx. In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was trained as an electrician and proudly served until 1949. During his time in the Navy, he volunteered for a special assignment involving atomic bomb testing that took place in the Enewetak Atoll in the Marshall Islands. Upon completion of the special assignment, he completed his enlistment stationed aboard the USS Fitch (DMS-25). Upon his return home, he found gainful employment with the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company where he rose to the title of Manager. When he transitioned out of the A&P, he was hired by MABSTOA, where he remained for 20 years, retiring in 1987.  

Peter enjoyed traveling around the United States, which included yearly jaunts to Las Vegas. Peter was a historian and an avid sports fan, favoring the New York Football Giants, New York Baseball Giants, and the NY Mets. Peter fondly reflected on memories of taking his children to numerous baseball and football games. Peter loved all things food. Having never met a meal he didn’t like; he became known as “2 Plate Pete.” In his downtime, he enjoyed telling stories, reading mystery and spy novels, solving crossword puzzles, playing family poker games, watching old western movies and Jeopardy. At family gatherings, he filled the rooms with his hearty laugh and strong tenor voice that led the singing of both Irish folksongs and patriotic American ballads. 

He was proud of his Irish and Scottish Heritage and was devoted to his Catholic Faith. He was in possession of a quick, lovingly sarcastic wit, gave the warmest hugs, boasted the softest of hearts and purest of souls, he was a man unlike any other. Peter’s passing marks the end of an era, a time symbolized by tough love, compassion, and generosity. Of all that Peter will be remembered by, the most significant is the unconditional love that he held for his wife and children.

Reposing Wednesday March 24, 2021 from 1-4 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. Bx.  Mass of Christian Burial Thursday 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery.
