Socorro Marcano

Socorro Marcano, also known as Coca, departed this world on January 8th, 2022 at the age of 83. She succumbed to her long-term health issues at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, in New York City.

She was born on October 9th, 1938 in Santurce, Puerto Rico to the original matriarch, Catalina Marcano, and was one of 6 siblings. As a young lady, she became a mother to Cruz Acosta (Macho), Wanda Guzman, and Rafael Lopez (Paito). After dating her childhood sweetheart, Jorge Nieves (Caco), they decided to migrate to the Bronx. Within a few years, they additionally became parents to Luis Nieves (Cholo), and Sandra Nieves (Sandie), and married years later.

Coca was the life of the party. She loved to spend quality family time such as cooking and entertaining major family events. Thanksgiving and Christmas would never be the same though we shall continue the traditions of making Coquito, Pasteles, and Pernil every year.

She enjoyed playing the lottery, bingo, going to casinos as well as outdoor activities such as sitting in the park and attending shows. In her youthful days, she loved singing, dancing, and drinking her Budweiser beer.

Coca was survived by her husband Caco, her living children Wanda, Rafael, and Sandra as well as her only living sibling, her sister, Carmen Sanchez. As the family tree continues to grow, she also leaves behind her 9 grandchildren: John, Eric, Steven, and Krystal Acosta, Jessica Guzman, Rafael, Santiago, and Elisa Lopez, and Brianna Diaz; 15 great-grandkids, 2 great great grandkids, and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and in-laws.

She’ll always be remembered for her loving affection, her smile, her kindness to all and overall being an amazing woman. She’ll be joining her son, Cholo, who passed away on July 14th, 2021. He will forever be remembered for his jokes, his kind spirit, and his loving affection for his family and pets, Lola and Gizmo. We love you both so much. Rest and Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

The funeral service will be held on January 13th from 2 pm to 5 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson, 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY 10471. Committal private.
