Caterina Calogero

Mrs. Caterina Calogero, longtime Bronx (Riverdale) resident, gained her angel wings on December 10th, 2022. Caterina was born on October, 14th, 1934, in Fossato Serralta, Italy, to Luigi and Maria (Abate) Perricelli. Growing up, Caterina spent her early childhood in Taranto, Italy. During WWII, her parents sent her to live safely with her Grandmother in her hometown. 

On April 7th, 1956, Caterina married Frank Calogero in Fossato Serralta, Italy. Caterina and Frank went on to have 4 children: Anthony, Maria, Gina, and Frank Jr.

Caterina was predeceased by her husband, Frank Sr., son, Anthony, son-in-law, Richard T. Hulbert, siblings; Raimondo, Lina, Mario, Aldo, and Franco. She is survived by her children, Maria Hulbert, Gina Arena (Anthony), Frank Calogero Jr. (Shirley), daughter-in-law Antoinette Calogero, her six Grandchildren; Catherine Calogero, Richard F. Hulbert, Nicholas Hulbert, Anthony Arena Jr., Gabrielle Arena, and Michael Arena and cousin Arlene.

Caterina, and her son, Anthony, immigrated to the United States in 1958 to reunite with her husband. Caterina held the most important position of devoted, beloved Matriarch of the Calogero family. Caterina was an avid gardener who had two green thumbs. The beautiful flowers in her front yard always prompted people to stop and enjoy them. An excellent cook/baker, who remembered how to make her recipes by eye and intuition. She loved her family and loved to share all her Holiday traditions with friends and family. No one ever left hungry when visiting her home! Her smile and sense of humor always brought happiness to everyone in her presence. 

Caterina loved to make frequent trips to Arthur Avenue(Bronx Little Italy),where she was well-known by all the merchants, and, was considered family to them. She loved to have her espresso in the evening while watching Telanovelas with her best friend, Lina. She was an active parishioner of St Margaret’s Church.

A Wake will be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home located at 6110 Riverdale Ave., Bronx, NY Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. on December 19, 2022. A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. on December 20, 2022 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church located at 6000 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY. Entombment Ferncliff Cemetery. Parking is at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 1/2 block south.
