Joan (Candie) Cline Collins
Candie Collins, (nee Joan Cline), was born to Walter R. and Alma L. Cline on August 14, 1935 in Camden, NJ. Her sister, Helene Cline Frazier, preceded her in death! Candie was educated in the Merchantville, NJ school system. After graduating high school she ventured to NYC, the "Big Apple," to pursue her dream of becoming a registered nurse. She received her nursing certification from the esteemed Harlem Hospital School of Nursing. Candie later joined the US Air Force, where she served as a flight nurse to medically wounded airmen. In 1968 Candie married her love and lifelong soulmate, Edward "Eddie" Collins. Soon after she retired from nursing, and in true Candie form, she joined law enforcement, becoming one of New York City's finest - a police officer!
Candie Cline Collins was a beautiful, sociable and personable lady. She epitomized the meaning of class. Her style was impeccable and she possessed a heart of gold! She exhibited a tremendous sense of humor and her laugh was infectious. All who knew her enjoyed being around her!
Upon retirement from the NYPD, Candie and Eddie traveled extensively. They visited six of the earth's seven continents and an untold number of countries. Additionally, Candie always displayed a desire to help and assist others She was both civic and charitable-minded. Her community outreach endeavors included, among others, the UNCF, the Vivants, the NAACP, the NY Drifters, Inc. and the NY Coalition of 100 Black Women.
Candie leaves to embrace and cherish her memory her beloved husband Eddie, devoted niece-Goddaughter Carol Jennings (Frank), grand nephew Frank Keith (Qiana), stepdaughter Simone Collins, special friend and forever sister, Marilyn Warren, dearest friend George Saddler, and a host of extended family and friends.
Family will gather on Friday, April 8th at 10:30 am at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. Services at 12 noon and followed by an interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
