Jules “Butch” Formel
Jules “Butch” Formel passed away after a long-fought battle with kidney and heart disease, on May 12, 2022. Jules “Butch” was born on December 22, 1954, in NYC, to his parents Jules and Barbara Formel. He grew up in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx and graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School, where he was a Boys Scout Troop Leader. Butch worked for Con Edison for 38 years as a Splicer and was the Union Shop Steward, until he was injured on the job and had to retire. Butch lived his entire life as a Bronx Resident; in addition to growing up in Kingsbridge, Butch and his wife Betty previously owned a home in Throgs Neck, NY and currently owned homes in Riverdale and Bethel, NY. Butch and Betty were also snowbirds and owned a home in Jupiter, Florida, which is where Butch was living when his earthly journey ended.
Butch battled a very long and hard road with deteriorating health for the last 12 years and he fought a valiant battle. His final day was spent with his devoted wife Betty Cavanagh Formel and (step) daughter Suzanne Spellman, by his side, holding his hands, when he left us to have eternal peace in Heaven. Butch was an amazing, resilient man, who loved his family and friends; he loved fishing, the ocean, sci-fi movies, Facebook, and in his younger days he was an avid dart player and he loved scuba diving. Butch was also a dedicated dog lover; his three dogs, Cookie, Spanky, and Libby will be with him again in eternal life. Butch also had 2 furry grandchildren, Max, and Lulu, who he loved very much, and they loved him.
Butch is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Betty Cavanagh Formel, his (step) daughter, Suzanne Spellman (fiancé Robert Heinemann) and (step) son Jerry Winter, as well as his extended family and friends. We will miss him tremendously, but we take comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain, and we will see him again in eternal life. Thank you all for loving and caring for Butch through your supportive friendships over his lifetime. We Love you Butch and May You Rest in Peace.
Reposing Friday 4-8 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave. Bronx, NY. Interment Saturday 11 am at Kensico Cemetery.
