Kathleen Feerick O’Grady

It is with overwhelming sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Kathleen Feerick O’Grady on June 24, 2022, in Riverdale.  Kathleen was born on September 8, 1927 to Mary and John Feerick in Hollymount, Co. Mayo, Ireland.  She was the third youngest of 8 children, Patrick, Bridget (Bridie), John, Sr. Anne Marita (Philomena), Mary (Mae), Margaret (Peggy), and her only surviving sibling, Jimmy.  She moved to and lived in London with her sister Mae, where she later met her husband and love of her life, Joseph O’Grady and where they raised their two children, Carmel and Elaine, until 1960 when they moved to Inwood, NY and then to Riverdale, NY in 1976.

Kathleen was a true inspiration and role model, volunteering at Good Shepherd Church and School, and Mother Cabrini High School for many years. Her Catholic faith came first, praying the rosary every day and, even when house bound, watching or listening to Mass daily. She lived her life devoted to her family and friends, helping those in need and praying for their well-being, with a lifelong devotion to the Blessed Mother and Padre Pio.  Her other devotion was to reading and education.

A proud member of 1199: National Health Care Workers' Union and retired after 16 years, Kathleen leaves behind her two children, Carmel (Dennis Sheehan) and Elaine (Christopher Greenan); her cherished grandchildren, Christopher, Colin, Victoria (Michael O’Rourke) and Chelsea (Christopher Yorlano); her beautiful great-granddaughters, Casey Leigh, Claire Carina and Kiera Ryan; and her brother Jimmy (Mary Feerick), as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2022, 3:00-7:00 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Mass will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY. Interment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Early-McLoughlin School of Irish Dance, 42 Seventh Street, Ridgefield Park, NJ, 07660.
