Lois Hughes (née Murphy) passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2023. Lois was the beloved mother of Jennifer Quinn (John), devoted grandmother of Bridget, and loving cousin to a large extended family. Born and raised in New York, she was the daughter of the late William and Claire Murphy.

She attended Walton High School and was a retired supervisor for the United States Postal Service. Always willing to help, she was a dedicated volunteer at Good Shepherd Church and School when her daughter was growing up, helping to run the weekend swimming program, the after school program, and the adult theater program.

Later on, in support of her granddaughter, Lois was a frequent volunteer with the Riverdale Children’s Theater. She was also the co-creator and Vice-President of the Knolls Social Club.

The family will receive family and friends from 3 - 6 pm on Thursday January 19, 2023 at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY 10471.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday January 20, 2023 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church.  Burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne NY.
