Gloria Piro
Gloria Piro was born on December 17, 1923 in the Bronx, New York to Henry and Maria Lehman. She graduated from Morris High School. Gloria worked for the First National City Bank in Manhattan. She held that position until her marriage to Paul Piro in 1951.
Gloria and Paul had met in the Disciples of Christ Church in the Bronx. She was active in the church and sang in the choir. Gloria began work as a School Aide in P.S. 132 in the Bronx in 1962. During this time at P.S. 132, she served as Parents Association president. She was instrumental in securing an educational annex in the neighborhood.
Gloria attended classes at Bronx Community College, while working full-time, in order to secure a School Secretary license from the New York City Board of Education. She held this position until her retirement in 1986.
After her retirement, she cared for her husband Paul who had suffered a stroke, until his passing in 1999. Gloria is survived by her children, Valerie, Jonathan and Michael, her son-in-law Santos, daughter-in-law Lucinda, grandchildren Christian, Willa and Dante and her beloved cat Whitey Ford.
