Anna Cuevas Laureano
Anna Cuevas Laureano, mother of Myrna and Catherine and beloved step mother to Lucienne and Raphael passed away in her sleep on the morning of Wednesday March 8, 2023 at the age of 95. Anna was born in Ciales Puerto Rico on April 22, 1927. She grew up with many brothers and sisters which developed a strong sense of family. This experience was the foundation of who she would become and the family she herself would build.
Anna moved to New York and spent many years in Brooklyn and in the Bronx with her husband Sixto Laureano who was both a World War II veteran and prominent attorney in the Bronx. Anna worked in the garment industry and knew all matter of designing, sewing and modeling dresses. Anna was extremely hardworking and tireless in support of her family. She loved making sweaters, hats and gloves for her beloved children, grandchildren and in her later years, her great grandchildren.
Anna was a Matriarchal figure standing at 5’10”, she was fiercely proud of her family. Her colorful personality and strong spirit kept her going, not only for herself but for all the lives she touched. A perfect example of a selfless person. Anna will be missed by all who new her. Vega, grandchildren- Rodney Vega, Lynette Rodgriguez-Wibbels and Vanessa Rosabal. Her great grand children include Sebastian Munoz, Kay Dinallo, Myles Vega, Madison Rosabal, Morgan Rosabal and Chase Vega. Great great grandchild Makai. She also has many sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews in New York and Puerto Rico. Anna spent her remaining years at the Hebrew home of Riverdale, in The Bronx.
Services will be held from 4 - 7 pm on Tuesday March 14th, 2023 at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home at 6110 Riverdale Ave, The Bronx NY 10471. Anna will return to her birthplace of Puerto Rico and services will be held at Buxeda Funeraria in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Anna will be buried next to her Purple Heart recipient husband Sixto, at the Puerto Rico National Cemetery.
