September 5, 1924 – March 11, 2023

Gloria Joan Heubel, 98, went to her place in Heaven on March 11, 2023, joining her beloved husband Joseph Heubel after over 50 years.

Gloria was born in Queens, N.Y. to John and Clementina Pizzuto Gioia. Sadly, she and her younger sister, Natalie lost their mother in their teens, leaving them to assume responsibilities beyond their years.   

Gloria attended Evander Childs High School (Bronx) and worked as a bank teller at a Bronx branch, where she met, trained, and fell in love with her future husband, Joe. Gloria and Joe had four children (within five years!) But, Joe’s untimely death, less than 18 years into their marriage, left her alone to love, care and provide for her family. She summoned her courage and went back to banking – finely retiring at age 82!

Gloria will always be remembered for her deep love and devotion to her family, her outstanding made-with-love meals and baked goods and for nurturing the family traditions at the heart of so many of our treasured memories. An unassuming woman, Gloria always trusted in God and found the strength to soldier-on through whatever life sent her way – literally until her dying day.

She will be sorely missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends. Gloria is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, sister Natalie and grandsons Karl Rehm and Brendan Heubel. She is survived by her four children: Gerard Heubel (Meg), Barbara Heubel, Virginia Fahy (Gerard) and Joan Rehm (Robert), her seven grandchildren: Daniel, Christopher, Kevin, MaryKate, Lauren, Thomas and Brian and her two great granddaughters: Paige Gloria and Abigail Rose.

A wake will be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, located at 6110 Riverdale Ave Bronx, NY from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday March 16, 2023. Gloria’s life will be celebrated at a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 18th 2023 at 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne NY.

In lieu of flowers donations can be make to the Special Olympics or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Gloria’s name.
