Mary Sheridan (nee O'Brien) of Riverdale, Bronx, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2023. Born to Mary and Michael O'Brien on December 10,1931 in Tuamgraney, Co. Clare, Ireland. Mary is pre-deceased by her loving husband John in 1973. Dear Mother of Michael, Sean (Mary), Dennis (Melody) and Maureen (Jimmy). Loving Grandmother to Mary Ann, Caroline, James, Shannon and Ashling. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews throughout the United States, Ireland and England. Predeceased by her parents , Mary and Michael, her sisters Nora, Anna, Bridget and Margaret and her brothers Sean and Denis.

Mary left her home in Ireland to attend Nursing School in England and then immigrated to New York in 1956.She married the love of her life, John in 1959 and they moved to Riverdale in May 1967.  Mary was a devoted Registered Nurse for over 50 years. She worked at The Hebrew Home for the Aged for several years before working as a Registered Nurse at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Yonkers, N.Y. until her retirement in 2000. She touched the lives of so many people with her brand of compassionate, loving and professional care. 

Mary was a proud member of The Riverdale Irish Society and She attended Mass daily at Saint Margaret of Cortona . Although we mourn the loss of Mary, we are comforted by the knowledge that she is at home in Heaven. 

Visiting hours will be Friday, June 30th, 4pm-7pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, Bronx, New York. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret of Cortona on Saturday July 1st at 9:30am, followed by Christian Burial at Gate of Heaven in Hawthorne, NY.
