Kathy Rose Carmona
Kathy Rose Carmona passed away peacefully on December 16th, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a cherished grandmother, mother, sister, and friend, whose love and strength touched everyone who knew her.
Born in New York City, Kathy was the third daughter of Harold and Margaret Casey and grew up in Inwood as one of nine siblings: Kristine, Karen, Kenny, Kevin, Keith, Kirby, Kieran, and Kerry. Her childhood was filled with the vibrant energy of a large family and all the dynamics that come with it!
Kathy began her early working career at Cablevision and Merrill Lynch. However, her most rewarding role was becoming a devoted mother to her children, Liam and Lauren, whom she adored beyond measure. Once her children were settled in school full-time, Kathy joined the team at Riverdale Neighborhood House, where her kindness and compassion left a lasting impression on colleagues and the community alike.
Later in life, Kathy embraced her favorite role as "Grandma" to Julia, who became the light of her life. She cherished every moment spent with her granddaughter and reveled in the joy and love Julia brought to her.
Kathy faced a decades-long battle with Multiple Sclerosis with extraordinary courage and resilience. Though the disease took many things from her, it never diminished her sharp wit, quick humor, or her fierce love for her family and friends. Kathy’s strength and determination is an inspiration to all who knew her.
She will not be forgotten and will live on in the hearts of those who loved her most: her children, Liam and Lauren; her granddaughter, Julia; her siblings; and the countless friends and family members whose lives she touched.
Kathy will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her unwavering love, humor, and the light she brought into the lives of others. Irish Wit is often described as mixing wit and wisdom, and Kathy was masterful in dispensing it!
