Maureen Dollard Smith
Maureen Dollard Smith was born on April 21, 1936 in London, England. At the age of 3, due to World War 2, her mother sent her off to Ireland to live with relatives for her safety. After two long years, she was reunited with her mother who decided to move to America. She grew up in Manhattan and quickly acclimated to her new environment. She frequently attended Irish dances, where she met Feihin, her future husband, who had immigrated from Ireland. They married and had two boys, Kevin & Eric. She was blessed with a caring daughter-in-law Audrey, and three grandchildren, Marren, Kieran and Sean.
After her children had grown, she decided to enter the workforce. While working full time she pursued her education and received her BA, May 1985 and masters in public admin May 1990.
She loved her career and often spoke of the people at St Vincent Hospital and later, Columbia Presbyterian. She made many friends and those friendships still continue today.
For the past 40 years she was a beloved resident of 2390, in Riverdale. She was known for her spirit and unwavering love for her community, family and St. Gabriels church.
One of her favorite times of year was summer, where she temporarily moved to Manasquan, NJ. She was surrounded by her NJ friends and had many, many visitors each year.
Maureen will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and kindness will live on through her family, friends, and the many neighbors who came to know her as a fixture in their community.
