Michael Cronin

Michael Cronin of Yonkers, NY passed away the afternoon of September 10th, 2024. Michael was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to David and Catherine Cronin. Michael had four sisters and one brother. His father served in the US Marine Corps and the family moved several times when he was young. They relocated from Hawaii to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, moved next to South Carolina and finally to Bronx, NY.

Michael attended St. Simon Stock Elementary School and Cardinal Hayes High School. During his high school years, he developed a love for the sport of hockey as both a player and a fan. He continued playing hockey as an adult and you would often find him in the early hours of the morning on the ice at Murrays or Rye Playland Ice Rinks.

In 1980 Michael met Ann Marie Gaines through a mutual friend, and they soon knew that they were meant to be together. They married on February 19, 1982. They lived in the Bronx but later bought a home in Yonkers, NY. Michael worked as an Assistant Manager at the Domino Sugar Refinery in Yonkers from which he retired in 2021.

Michael had a passion for cars. He was always teased that he was much fonder of cars than people. He owned over seventy-five vintage cars during his lifetime and regularly attended classic car cruises with his wife, Ann Marie, and friends. He loved spending time in Delaware at their summer home. He took pleasure in simple things like just viewing the lake from their front porch and doing outside yard work. He never gave up his love of hockey and was an avid fan of the Boston Bruins. He also had no choice but to root for the NY Yankees because Ann Marie was just as much of a Yankee fan as he was a Bruin fan.

Reposing Sunday, September 15th, from 2 – 7 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY. Funeral Mass 9:30 am Monday, September 16th, at St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church, Bronx, NY. Burial will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx, NY

Thank you for your love and support.
