Patrick Francis Monaghan, 85, of The Bronx, NY passed away on the morning of Saturday, March 11 at the Frances Schervier Nursing Home as his loving wife of 57 years, Bridie (nee Gaughan), held his hand. A veteran of the United States Marine Corp and the New York City Sanitation Department, he is predeceased by his brother, Jim, and survived by his sister Beatrice Sote and her husband Fred. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Adam, his seven grandchildren; Patrick IV, Thomas, Michael, Kerry-Anne, and their mother, Mary Theresa (nee McArdle) and Brian, Siobhan and Maura. He is also survived by his sons; Patrick and his wife Rebecca and John and his wife Maura.
His siblings called him “Patsy,” his sons called him “Dad,” and his grandchildren all called him “Poppy.” Though that title, Poppy was hardly spoken alone, it was usually heard as “Granny and Poppy” as Pat and Bridie were inseparable all their days; as parents, raising their boys down on the Grand Concourse or as Grandparents, treating their grandkids to weekends away every chance they had. As a ‘friend of Bill W.,’ Pat had helped many a man turn his life around. The life of Patrick Francis Monaghan, Jr. stands today as an example to any man wishing to actually dedicate himself to his marriage, family and friends. He put nothing before home and family and we’ll always appreciate and remember him for that.
Reposing Sunday March 12, 2017 from 3-8 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY 10471. Mass of Christian Burial 9:45 Monday at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Interment Rose Hill Memorial Park, Putnam Valley NY.
