Fred William Kackmann

August 11, 2018 Jeffrey Wiecek
fredkackmann.jpg

Fred William Kackmann was born on October 17, 1940 in New York City.  He was the eldest of two children born to Fred and Adele (nee Degen) Kackmann.  Fred grew up and was a lifetime resident of Washington Heights and was a graduate of Newtown High School and, subsequently, Cornell University. Fred was a real New Yorker and knew the city like the back of his hand.  Fred was intensely smart, salt-of-the-earth, and a true character.  His consistent thoughtfulness would manifest itself through quiet acts of generosity, done without any expectation of thanks.  He was a man of tremendous intelligence, integrity, persistence, loyalty, and decency.  He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Ellen; his brother, John; as well as his extended family members.

A wake will be held for both Fred and his wife Beatrice on Friday October 5th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am Saturday October 6th at Church of the Incarnation, W 175th Street at Saint Nicholas Avenue, NYC. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne NY.

Fred's family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the ASPCA (www.aspca.org) or New York Humane Society (www.humanesocietyny.org), given his love of animals and concern about their welfare.
