He proudly served combat duty with the U.S. Army from 1950 - 1952 during the Korean War. After his Army years, he married Virginia Fahey in 1954, and settled in Yonkers NY where they raised their 4 sons. He was a dedicated parishioner of St. Margaret's Church for over 60 years.
Mr. Carey was pre-deceased by his loving wife Virginia, his son James A. Carey Jr. and his brother Michael Carey. He is survived by his sister Patricia Gareri, his sons Edward (Mary Anne), Peter ( Margaret) and John, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 3 nieces, and his first cousin Andrew Crowley.
Besides his military service, he was extremely proud to have worked as an attorney at the Port Authority of NY/NJ from 1956 until his retirement in 1985, at the World Trade Center in NYC. On weekends, he enjoyed officiating high school football in Westchester County for 15 seasons. He attended many Korean War Veterans Reunions throughout the USA. He also helped to dedicate the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. in 1995. After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing on the Hudson River with his family, friends and grandchildren. He was an active member of The Tower Ridge Yacht Club in Hastings-On-Hudson NY, where he served two terms as The Commodore. When he wasn't fishing, Jim was an avid fan of the Manhattan Jaspers basketball team, and a life-long season ticket holder at the Draddy Gymnasium. (Go Jaspers !)
