Wesley Michael Wszolek, age 67, a long term resident of Yonkers, passed away Sunday morning, July 8th in White Plains Hospital, White Plains, New York of complications from a long battle with cancer. He was born in February, 1951 in Yonkers, NY, to the late Walter M. and Florence (nee Jankowski) Wszolek. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bridget (nee Bohan) Wszolek; two sons, Christian Wszolek and his wife Karen of Bronx, NY and William Wszolek of New York, NY. He also leaves behind his brother Donald J. Wszolek and his wife Amy of Montvale, NJ and brother Roger W. Wszolek and his wife Lorraine of Yonkers, NY. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Carol (nee Lucas) Wszolek.
Wes was raised in Yonkers, NY, educated at the St Mary’s School and Mount St. Michaels High School. He graduated in 1973 from Manhattan College with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He later earned a Master of Business Administration from Pace University in 1989. Wes spent 37 years working in various capacities within the Paramutual Department at Yonkers Raceway. He also worked in senior accounting roles for the City of New York and the City of Yonkers Parks Department.
Wes was an avid fisherman and maintained a small boat on the Pepacton Reservoir where he spent many days on the water enjoying the beautiful sunshine and scenery. He was a passionate gardener, making his family’s house a truly special place to call home after planting and cultivating a diverse assortment of trees and flowers. Wes was a lifelong sports fan and called the New York Yankees and New York Jets his favorite teams. Go Jets! His love and encyclopedic knowledge of horse racing knew no bounds, as well as his enjoyment of New York Times crossword puzzles.
He will be forever missed by the love of his life Bridget, his children, his brothers, his sisters- and brothers-in-law Amy, Lorraine, Mary, Christine, Athena, Ellen, John and Peter. As well as many loving nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Calling Hours will be Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday July 11 at 10:45 AM at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, Bronx, NY. Commital will be private.
