Olga Rivera (née Lopez) peacefully passed away on January 23, 2019. Olga was born on June 13, 1945 to Eugenia Rosado Torres and Jesus Manuel Lopez Sr. in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. She is survived by her three sons, Miguel Rivera, Jr., Jason Rivera and Derrick Rivera, and her surrogate daughter/niece, Bonnie Rivera. She is also survived by her grandsons, Ethan Rivera and Logan Rivera. Lastly, she is survived by her siblings, Jesus Lopez, Jr. and Wilfredo Lopez and their mother, Eugenia. She is preceded in death by her father Jesus and her brothers, Carlos Lopez and Louis Lopez.
Olga attended high school at Grace Dodge Vocational in the Bronx, New York.
In addition to raising her three boys, from 1976 to 1982, Olga worked as a legal secretary for the law firm of Albert & Silver on the Grand Concourse. In 1982, she left the firm to work for the Manhattan office of the New York City Department of Probation as Administrative Assistant and Computer Terminal Operator. In addition to her assigned day-to-day responsibilities, Olga was the person who voluntarily coordinated the annual Probation Department holiday parties at the 100 Centre Street Courthouse until her retirement in 2003.
Olga was a very generous and outgoing person. She had a huge heart, bright spirit and sense of humor. Her friendships were long lasting. She loved to entertain. If there’s one lasting collective memory of Olga, it is that she enjoyed bringing people together and celebrating life through parties, get togethers and group travel. She enjoyed travel and going on cruises, loved to dance salsa, and loved going to the movies, especially romantic comedies.
Olga, suffered a stroke in 2003, which severely limited her mobility, but those who knew her during this time will tell you she never let that stop her from enjoying life with her family and friends.
Visitation and Life Celebration will be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY on Saturday, January 26 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Committal private.
