Thomas Anthony Hanrahan of Aughrim, Moyvane, County Kerry, Ireland passed away peacefully on November 3, 2019 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Tom (Tony) is survived by his loving wife Ann (nee Morris), by his side for 54 blessed years. He is also survived and loved by his six children: Tommy (Eileen), Mary (John), Gerard (Sian), Patricia (Alan), Eileen (Boyer), and Kevin (Carolyn). Tom was a proud grandfather of twenty grandchildren who will miss their Papa dearly: Siobhan, Thomas, Fiona, Conor, Aidan, Bridget, Rhodri, Colin, Liam, Cara, Colette, Megan, Ella, Rowan, Nolan, Teagan, Aine, Cailin, Finn, and Lochlan. Tom was the fifth of seven children born to Thomas and Mary Ellen (nee Egan) Hanrahan on May 13, 1939. He is survived by his siblings Den, Billy, Mary, Brendan, and predeceased by siblings Con and Helen. Tom will also be missed by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nephews, nieces, and dear friends here and abroad.
Tom immigrated to the United States in March of 1959 and became a proud US citizen in 1964. Tom maintained strong ties to his homeland of Ireland with frequent visits and weekly phone calls to family and friends. Tom worked extremely hard his entire life and instilled that hard work ethic and importance of education in his children and grandchildren. Tom had many professions from his early days working on the farm and at Newtownsands Creamery in Ireland to his business ventures across the Atlantic Ocean. Tom was a tavern owner, successful builder, and proud member of the Carpenters Local 608 for over 55 years. Tom was also a 50-year member of the Kerrymen’s P&B Association, founding member of the Kerry Building committee, and lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. Tom enjoyed travelling around the world, visiting many countries on six of the seven continents.
Services will be held Thursday November 7th from 5-9 pm and again on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx NY. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday November 9th at 10:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
