McCaffrey, Edward James , Lieutenant, FDNY on August 20, 2019. Born in New York in 1945, the beloved son of the late Edward and Betty. Dear brother of the late Tommy, Barbara, Peggy, and Gerald. Loving husband of Christine and devoted father of Eddie. Dear brother of Betty and Rita, and a loving uncle, cousin and friend to many. Eddie “Mac”, aka King of the Kids, Ace, Crazy Ed, and Lieu, was selfless and personable - always there for whoever needed him. He took pride in and loved his family, his friends, his job, and his country. He spent his early years in Flushing, and later moved to Riverdale where he attended St Gabriel’s School. He proudly served two tours in the US army, posted in Germany and then Vietnam, and had a distinguished career with the FDNY’s Ladder 7 and Ladder 49.
Ed loved spending time with his beloved family and friends, no matter where or when, and was always one of the last ones to leave the party. He enjoyed listening to oldies, playing golf, and was even known to be a great basketball player. Ed always loved socializing and having good “craic”. No matter where he traveled, he was likely to meet someone he knew.
His favorite pastimes included rooting for The New York Football Giants and The New York Yankees, spending time at his retreat in LBI, and hanging with his best bud, Champ. He had quick wit, an irreverent sense of humor, and the ability to make you laugh at yourself.
But most importantly, he made each person he met feel special, no matter who you were or how long he knew you. He will be deeply missed by all.
