Anna McGowan Kavanagh died January 20, 2021, sometime in the early morning. She was 88 years old. Anna was born to Cormac and Anna McGowan in New York City, where she lived and worked for F. Schumacher & Co, until the 1970’s. At that time, she moved to Houston to live with her sister Kay and their family because of health reasons. A perennial Aunt to all who knew her, Aunt Nancy was a kind soul, a dedicated Catholic, and a forever New Yorker. She was very close to her siblings, Kay, Patsy, and Cormac and her nieces and nephew. She returned to New York in 2000 to live near her other sister, Patsy. While she struggled with health issues all her life, she carried them with aplomb, and she was well cared for by her family and the wonderful staff at Francis Shervier Nursing Home. She loved music and had a beautiful singing voice. Her favorite things were simple: a copy of the Daily News on Sunday, a glass of beer every Saturday dinner, followed by some Bingo. She will be missed, as she was the last member of her McGowan generation. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York.
A Graveside Service will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 27th 2021 at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
