Anna M. Murphy (nee Hogan) passed away peacefully in hospital with her nephew and Godson, Patrick, at her side on August 15, 2021. She was 80 years old.
Anna is survived by her niece and nephews, Cathy, Patrick,and John Francis Hogan in New York; her siblings, Teresa, Assumpta and Paddy Hogan in Co. Clare, Ireland; her nephew Aidan Hogan in England, niece Louise Hogan in Australia, niece Carron Hogan Kane in Ireland and grandnephew Joey Hogan in England. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Brenda and Geraldine, as well as many cousins both here in New York and in Ireland. She is predeceased by her brothers, John and P.J.
Anna Maria was born on March 16, 1941, in Lislanahan, Kilkee, Co. Clare, Ireland to Patrick and Teresa (nee Lorigan). She came out to her older brother, John, in New York in 1961. After a very short stint in the hospitality business, Anna began work as a nanny, and after four families, retired in 2008. She is survived by nine children she helped raise – Electra, Laura, Linn, Eleanor, Freddie, Caroline, Lorrie, Courtney, and Lily. These children and their children all remained a special part of Annie’s extended family. That’s not a typo, they all called her Annie.
Anna was a member of the Doonbeg Social Club of New York and the Sister Annunciata Bethell Senior Center, and she volunteered for numerous years at St. Patrick’s Nursing Home in the Bronx.

Anna will be reposing on Wednesday, August 25th from 4-7 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, August 26th at 10 am at St. Brendan’s Church, 333 East 206th Street, Bronx, New York. She will be returned to Ireland to be interred with her parents in the family plot in Lisdeen Cemetery in Kilkee, County Clare.
