The world lost a beloved mother, Peggy Jorio on June 27, 2022. Peggy died peacefully at her home in Riverdale. Born on September 23, 1928 to Agnes and William Cahill in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, she was one of 6 children, Bill, Tom, May, Jack, and her only surviving sibling, Betty. She grew up in Troy, New York and spent many hours working in her father’s store, Cahill’s Sporting Goods. Peggy made Riverdale her home in the 1950s.
Peggy was the mother of six children. She always provided support and love for her family. She loved to have a house full of people. Despite her large family, Peggy made time for everyone. Friends were always welcomed and encouraged to stay for dinner. Saturday barbeques were a frequent occurrence during the summers, and the Christmas parties were an annual event at her home with her at the piano while everyone sang carols and even the Dreidel song. Peggy devoted countless hours to her church, Saint Gabriel’s, where she was the music director and organist for over 20 years. She always loved music, and it played a huge part in her life with concerts at Dunwoody and even having the opportunity to sing at St. Patrick’s cathedral. She also taught music and produced the annual Christmas pageant at St. Margaret’s School. She had many friends in her community. She was always happy to provide assistance to anyone in need, always putting everyone before herself.
Peggy leaves behind her six children, Richard, Robert (Nina); Jacqueline (Chet); James (Elida), Frederick (Eloisa), and Jennifer (Paddy) and her cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Marc, Gabriella, Tatiana, Patrick, Kaleigh, and Aidan.
