Norma Ondina Rodriguez Escobar, 79, of Bronx, NY sadly passed away Saturday January 7th, 2023 at the New York Presbyterian Allen Hospital in Manhattan, NY.
Born September 15th, 1943 in Olancho, Honduras, she was the daughter of Teofilo Rodriguez and Juliana Escobar. Norma was the wife of Jose Rolando Matute Zapata (her Roland) who she loved until the day she left to unite with our Savior. She was a loving and devoted mother to six children (Martin, Douglas, Zobeida, Francisco, Jose Rolando, Debora) who gave her the blessing of 13 wonderful grandchildren that she adored immensely. Norma also had a special and unconditional love for her son in law and daughters in law.
As a matriarch in the family, she was not just a sister to her younger siblings but more like a mother. She was an aunt like no other, always out to please her nieces and nephews.
During her earlier years, after studying fashion design in Costa Rica, she moved back to Honduras and became a master seamstress. She was fortunate enough to be able to dress prominent socialites in Tegucigalpa, Honduras before moving to New York, NY.
Norma’s character, sense of humor, and way of viewing life allowed her to create long lasting friendships everywhere she went. Her great love for God gave her strength as she battled her illness. We will miss her so much but we know that she is at peace in the arms of God in Heaven. Our family knows that we now have one more Angel to look after us in times of need.
Due to her unwavering love for God we know that she’s in Heaven by His side resting in peace.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Thursday January 12, 2023 at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY 10471.
