Sadly our wife and mother, Aspasia, passed away on Tuesday, January 17. She successfully fought off a series of ailments for a long while until finally she succumbed to them. There will be a visitation and service for her on Sunday, January 22 from 2PM to 5PM at the Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home located at 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY 10471.
Aspasia was born in Manhattan, NY on November 4th, 1939 to Greek immigrant parents. She grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood in upper Manhattan. She excelled in school and became the first in her family to go to college. There, she studied mathematics, and after she graduated became a math teacher in the NYC Board of Education. She taught at a few schools before spending the vast majority of her career at Walton high school in the Bronx. When she retired in the mid-90's after more than 30 dedicated years in the classroom, she wasn't done teaching and worked per-diem substitute teaching for over 10 more years.
Besides teaching, One of her passions was cooking, especially Greek delicacies. It was well known that when you went over to the house you were leaving full and satisfied. Her love of cooking directly related to her next passion, gardening. She loved to garden both at her home in the Bronx but she was especially proud of her garden at our Catskill mountain house where she grew seemingly everything. Those fruits and vegetables she grew were the main ingredients in all of her dishes and she loved to share! Lastly, she enjoyed traveling around the United States and the world with her sons and husband.
You, your family and friends are invited to join us for this memorial service. Our email address list is probably incomplete and we would appreciate it if you could pass this invite to friends of Aspasia that we may have omitted. We wish that every one that knew her will be there. She was a wonderful person who was loved universally.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to her favorite places to visit such as the New York Botanical Garden or the WCS- Wildlife Conservation Society (Bronx zoo).
