James A. Lombard
A life long resident of the Bronx, passed away October 17, after a brief illness. Born December 26, 1934 to John and Mary Robinson Lombard, he was the beloved husband to the late Rosemary Lombard who passed in 2017. James was a first generation Irish American with lineage from both Counties Cork and Mayo. James was a graduate of Iona College and held a Masters degree from NYU. He then served 2 years active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps. He began his career in public service when he joined the staff of the New York City Council President Paul O’Dwyer. In 2002 he retired as Director, Administrative Services Division, after serving the City Council for over 25 years.
James served on the boards of the Emerald Isle Immigration Center, Daxor Corporation and the Mayo Society. He is also a member of many organization such as the County Cork B.P. and P.; Div. 3 New York County Ancient Order of Hibernians; The Ireland-U.S. Council and The Knights of ST. Patrick.
James is survived by his brother Stephen his sister-in-laws Helen and Patricia, his nephews Stephen and Douglas Lombard, Brendan, Kyle and niece Kerry Yetter. James also has four Grand nephews and one Grand niece.
The wake honoring James’s life will be held on Sunday, October 29th from 2-5 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, New York. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, October 30th at 9:45 am at St. Margaret of Cortona Church. The burial to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York.
