Daphne Romeo (née Horne), age 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Yonkers, NY on April 12, 2023. Born on April 15, 1929 to the late George Horne and Ethel Cockle Horne of Deptford, England, Daphne was the youngest sibling to sisters Doreen and Ethel and brothers Ronald, George, Stephen, and Raymond. Predeceased by her beloved husband Anthony N. Romeo (2003), she is survived by daughter Daphne Philipson and her husband, Robert Philipson; granddaughter Samantha Cassetta and her husband, Luigi Cassetta; great-grandson Vincent Cassetta; and many loving nieces and nephews in England, California, and Australia.
Daphne immigrated from England to the Bronx in 1947 and spent her life in the New York City area. She worked as an administrative assistant for various firms, most notably for advertiser Douglas Leigh, whose dramatic billboards animated Times Square, and IBM, where she became a manager.
Daphne was an avid tennis player and active member of the Park Hill Racquet Club in Yonkers. She loved traveling, attending the theater and museums, and shopping for bargains with her many dear friends. In her retirement she pursued her love of ballroom dancing at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Sleepy Hollow and cultivated a beautiful flower garden at her former home in Ardsley-on-Hudson. She was known to all who loved her for her style, grace, generosity, and kindness.
A memorial service will be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 18, at 11 am. Daphne will be buried with husband Tony in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Sleepy Hollow, NY in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
