Agnes V. Flynn, 80, passed away on August 9, 2023, after a long and difficult battle through which she fought cancers and multiple comorbidities. She held her head high, never complained, and was determined until the last moment.
Born to Charles Bryceland and her beloved mother Agnes Bryceland (nee Doherty) on July 31, 1943, mom was raised in the Bronx where she continued to live for over 70 years. Yearning to be close to family, she settled in her beautiful apartment and sanctuary in Norwalk, Connecticut 7 years ago.
Mom is predeceased by her beloved husband, Martin P Flynn, beloved granddaughter, Kylie Rae McNichol, esteemed sister-in-law, Anna Flynn Ludwinski, loved brother-in-law Jimmy Clifford, and loved sister-in-law, Cathy Bryceland.
Mom is survived by her three children and their spouses: Martin Flynn and daughter-in-law Gina; Kelly McNichol and son-in-law Frankie; Elizabeth Chen and son-in-law Ben. She is survived, too, by her grandchildren, the bright lights of her life: Shaelin Marie McNichol, Liam Francis McNichol, Ava Elizabeth McNichol, Martin Patrick Flynn III, Mikayla Lynn Flynn. Mom is mourned by her beloved sister, Elizabeth Clifford, beloved brother, Charlie Bryceland, her three nieces, Jennifer Critelli, Tricia Berry, Maureen Clifford, and nephew., Chuck Bryceland.
Mom’s heart was broken when we lost dad, her one love, confidant, partner, and friend. She and dad were a team, and her soul ached without the embrace of the life they shared.
Thanks to her deep faith in our Lord, mom’s heart continued to beat and was strengthened by the love she shared with her children and the adoration she held for each of her grandchildren. Through their energy, joy, beauty, and accomplishments, mom smiled, she laughed, she pierced through the hollows of pain to joy.
Mom reflected often on her 31 years of service at Manhattan College and cherished the deep friendships she cultivated. In recent years, she enjoyed meetings and lectures with the Y’s women’s group, lunches and activities with the Solo group, water aerobics classes at the YMCA, Wordle and an assortment of word games, reading, walks and shared Thursday afternoons with a circle of friends at the Amenities room of their apartment complex.
Mom, you are the light that shines away the darkness of our illusions and replaces them with Truth. You are the light that gives us the strength to accept the Grace God offers us. You are the light that reminds us that God’s Will is ours, and God’s Will be done.
And so, releasing you to angel’s wings, Martin and Mikayla jump and shout, “Goodbye, Georgie. We love you, dear Georgie, we love you.” Waving you on, ever higher still, Shaelin, and Liam, and Ava call, “We love you, dear Grandmommie, we love you.” Besides our dear Lord at Heaven’s gate, your precious Kylie Rae awaits you, arms open wide, “Welcome home, dear Grandmommie, welcome home.”
We will have a wake from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, located at 6110 Riverdale Ave Bronx, NY 10471.
