Monica Wright, 93, passed away on September 12th, 2023 peacefully at her home. She has entered the gates of heaven and has been reunited with those who have gone before her.
Monica Wright was born on October 16, 1929 in Trelawny, Jamaica. Monica was the daughter of Clarice Graham and Ivan Wright. She was the older sister to her brothers Langdon Fisher and Earl Wright. At the age of 26, she left Jamaica and headed to England to pursue her dreams of becoming a registered nurse. There she completed her nursing degree at Dewsbury Memorial Hospital and then continued her studies to obtain her midwifery graduating in 1960.
Monica continued her love for nursing and caring for her patients, but also had a passion for singing and performing. She took the opportunity to perform in various cabarets in England, Copenhagen and Germany.
In 1967 she made her way to New York to pursue her nursing career full time at Jewish Memorial Hospital in Manhattan. She met the love of her life Donald Condit a few years later and she was blessed to have her one and only daughter Stephanie.
Monica was a woman of strong faith in the Lord and she loved her family dearly. She was known as Aunt Mons to many of her relatives. Her dedication and care to her patients went above and beyond in every encounter. She treated each patient with the upmost care to ensure they were always comfortable and getting better.
Even though it is hard to accept that Monica is not physically here, her spirit lives on through all of us, Rest in peace my beautiful mother.
She leaves behind her daughter Stephanie Allen, son-in-law Errol Allen, granddaughter Skylar Monica Allen, her brothers Langdon Fisher and Earl Wright, sister-in-law Beverly Fisher, along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she loved.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30th 10 am -1pm. We will share a zoom link for those who are unable to attend.
