On the evening of January 10, 2024, William Burr Lipman of Riverdale, New York City, passed away peacefully at the age of 90. William was born in New York City at Harlem Hospital on November 1, 1933, to Patricia and Herb Lipman. William is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Maureen; his sons Chris, Stephen, Bill & daughter-in-law Maryann; siblings, Robin and Kenneth; grandchildren; Brian, Steven, Katie, Justin, Chloe and Camryn; and great grandchild, Kelly.
William and Maureen were married in 1954 and resided in Riverdale, NY for the past 69 years. William is a veteran of the United States Navy and has been an active member of the American Legion.
William and Maureen were active members of the local parish, Saint Gabriels, where their three sons attended grammar school. William performed in plays and was always there when faculty and neighbors needed a helping hand. William was a beloved Bronx little league football coach for 15 years for the Riverdale Warriors & Redskins and later the Harlem Roadrunners, positively affecting the lives of many kids. William was a Cub Scout leader as well.
William worked with his father at Tested Scaffold Corporation NYC from 1954-1974 where William was often on scaffolds high above the streets of Manhattan. He owned and operated TransScreen, a screen printing company in Riverdale, supplying printed apparel to the community for 20 years. William was very creative, he loved music and art and spent endless hours enjoying and sharing both. He was known for his kindness, service to the community, sense of humor and love of conversation. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A public visitation will be held from 2 PM to 6 PM on January 15, 2024 at the Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave., Bronx, New York 10471. A separate graveside service will take place on January 18th 2024 at 1:30 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4199 Webster Ave, Bronx, NY.
