Robert J. McLoughlin of Acra, NY (formerly Riverdale, NY) passed on to his eternal rest on August 31, 2024 at age 84.
He was the son of the late William and Kathryn (Denning) McLoughlin.
Bob was the loving and devoted husband to Kathleen McLoughlin (nee Kellett) for 59 years and 10 months.
He was the younger brother of the late William (Billy) McLoughlin and John (Jack) McLoughlin.
He was a cherished uncle to Jeanne Militana, Richard McLoughlin, Robert McLoughlin (Maria), Catherine Holzman (Arthur), Patricia Bishop (Howard), Gerard Kellett and Catherine Kellett. Grand uncle to 16 and great grand uncle to 8.
Bob was a dear brother-in-law to Maureen Dunleavy of Riverdale, NY and Sean Kellett (Maura) of Virginia, County Cavan, Ireland.
Bob was pre-deceased by sister-in-law Teresa McLoughlin and brother-in-law John Dunleavy.
Bob was born and raised in the Bronx. He was a proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School - Class of 1958. He began working at the age of 18 for the Tremont Savings Bank in the Bronx and retired after a 40 year career with the bank. In 1963, he joined the United States National Guard to serve his country for the next six years. Bob married the love of his life, Kathleen, who hailed from Co. Cavan Ireland, on Halloween 1964. He was a long time member and contributor to the Irish community as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, NY County Division 9 and a dedicated NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade worker for decades. In 1996, he had the honor and privilege of serving as one of the Aides to the NYC Grand Marshal, Cardinal John O’Connor. Bob and Kathleen were people of true faith. They dedicated much of their free time to doing God’s work whether it was visiting those in nursing home, praying for those in need, or supporting numerous charities. Together, they would work to support and promote the Respect Life movement. Bob served as a lecturer and Eucharist minister in Our Lady of Knock parish in East Durham NY where he was also a member of the Legion of Mary. Bob, also, was a member of the Knights of Columbus East Durham Council #6439. No matter where Bob was living, in the Bronx or Acra, he was an expert on all things New York sports loving to watch or converse about his favorite teams-Mets, Giants, Rangers, & Knickerbockers!
Reposing Thursday, September 5, at 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY. Funeral Mass on Friday, September 6 at 9:45am at St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church Bronx, NY. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
