Georgia L. Corless (nee Bowen), born on June 22, 1934, in Manhattan, NY, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, in the Bronx, NY.
The youngest of ten children, Georgia was preceded in death by her siblings, marking the close of a remarkable generation. She was the devoted wife of her late husband, John Robert Corless (1932–1985), and a loving matriarch whose faith and family were the cornerstones of her life. She is also preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert Corless and grandson, Benny Hamilton.
A woman of profound spiritual devotion, Georgia was a layperson in the Third Order of the Carmelites, dedicating herself to a life centered on prayer and her relationship with God. She spent much of her life in the Inwood section of Manhattan before moving to Lavallette, NJ, and later returning to New York, where she resided in Riverdale during her final years. Georgia found great joy by the sea and cherished time spent with her family at the shore.
She was the beloved mother of eight children: Deborah Hamilton, Ruth Montone (Pat), Marie Walsh (Joseph), Robert Corless (Dara), Edward Corless, Michael Corless (Andrea), Maureen Messina (James), and Gregory Corless (Francisca). Georgia was adored by her 13 grandchildren: Melissa Hannon (David), Jillian Walsh (Brian Abramson), Nicholas Walsh (Kelly), Benny Hamilton, Patrick Montone, Christopher Montone (Kimberly), Georgia Montone, Leah Simonik (Matthew), Gerard Corless (Jessa), Steven Messina, Victoria Corless, Grace Corless, and Olivia Corless. Her legacy continues through her 12 great-grandchildren: Jack Abramson, Bryce Abramson, Charlotte Abramson, Ethan Hannon, Addison Hannon, Summer Simonik, Robert Simonik, Aiden Simonik, Aubrey Montone, Luke Montone, Colette Walsh, and Leo Walsh.
Georgia is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Georgia’s life was a testament to unwavering faith and love for her family. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
Wake services will be held at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Ave, on Wednesday, January 29 from 4-7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church on Thursday, January 30 at 9:45am. Georgia will then be laid to rest next to her husband at Calverton National Cemetery.
