The Reverend Monsignor John B. Ahern was ordained in 1954. For the majority of his years with the Archdiocese of NYC, he worked in various administrative jobs, primarily concerning social justice. He worked as part of the Poverty Program both within the Archdiocese, and as a representative of the program to the governing body in New York City. He also served as program director for Catholic Charities, and as director of the Holy Name Center for Homeless Men, and pastor of its attached church, Our Lady of Loretto. Monsignor Ahern retired in 2010, at which time he joined Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral and then about two years ago was accepted into the O’Conner Residence.
Monsignor Ahern is predeceased by his parents Mary (nee Sullivan) and John Ahern. A dear brother to Patrick Ahern Sr. and his late wife Anne Ahern (nee Williams). Beloved uncle to Mary Schmidt, Patrick Ahern Jr., John Ahern, Thomas Ahern, Anne Cramer,James Ahern, Michael Ahern, and Theresa Higgins. He enjoyed reading and hiking in the Adirondacks,

The Reverend Monsignor John B. Ahern will be waked on Monday, May1, 2017 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the O'Connor Residence Chapel in Riverdale. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
