Dolores G. Edwards, mother, grandmother, and friend died on Sunday, October 13, 2019 in the Bronx. She was 87. She always said, “I’m a native New Yorker.”
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on June 11, 1932, she was the only child of Anna and Lester Long. Her grandmother Ida Blue was an important part of her life.
Dolores and her husband Stanley Edwards had one daughter, Sheila. Living in Harlem, Dolores and her 3 girlfriends – Dolores, Shirley, and Beezy – belonged to Club Sortilège. The ladies’ club hosted dances at the Palladium Ballroom, featuring such mambo performers as Machito.
Dolores worked for over 30 years on Fifth Avenue at luxury retailer Bonwit Teller, where she honed her fashion sense, style, and professionalism. She also traveled to Aruba almost every year. Most recently, Dolores was the secretary for the Tracey Towers Tenant Organization. She was a 45-year resident of Tracey Towers on Mosholu Parkway in the Bronx.
She leaves behind not to mourn, but to remember her as she was, her daughter Sheila, granddaughters Shannyn and Courtney, cousins Fred Barno, Edward and Barbara Blue, her Tracey Towers Tenant Organization friends and colleagues Jean Hill and Evelyn McDonald, and a host of longtime friends.
