Joseph Michael Heavey, of Riverdale, NY passed away suddenly on Saturday October 5, 2019. He was 54 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, and his children Jennifer, Daniel and Joseph. Joseph is also survived by his brother Thomas and sisters Kathleen, Patricia and Mary.
Joe was a proud graduate of Mount St. Michael’s Academy in the Bronx, and later the NYC Police Academy. He was first stationed at the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx, and later was station Yankee Stadium where he remained until his retirement.
Joe took great pride in his years as a police officer and had many stories to tell. He formed many lasting friendships with his fellow officers. Joe always helped others. It was often said if you find a stray send them Joe’s way. You could rest assure he would look them. Joe was also known as “King of the One Liners.” He had great comebacks and always able to fill a room with smiles and laughter.
Joe loved life and lived it well. He spent a lot of time at Rockaway Beach and loved fishing. Of course, this Bronx Bomber was a diehard Yankee Fan and his other interest included play the bagpipes. He could always be counted in on a quick game of a pool with a cold beer.
He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
