Dr. Tomiko Ito Goldman passed away peacefully at Calvary Hospital, on July 27, 2021. She was 95 years old.

Tomiko is survived by her daughters, Anita Patterson and Sheila Goldman; a granddaughter, Kaia Patterson; and sister Haru Watanabe of Torrance, California. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dr. Ilana Ruth Baylon, her husband, Dr. Arthur G. Goldman, and her brother, Noburu Ito.

Tomiko was born on June 26th, 1926 in Riverside, California. She graduated from The Cambridge School in Weston, Massachusetts in 1944 and went on to attend Radcliffe College and Harvard Medical School where she graduated in 1953 with a degree in Medicine.  She eventually opened a private practice as a Pediatrician in Fort Lee, NJ.

Tomiko married Arthur Goldman in [the late 1950s]. The two met in a class in Medical School when Arthur asked to borrow Tomiko’s notes as a ploy to learn her phone number. They welcomed Ilana in 1960, Anita in 1961 and Sheila in 1965.

Tomiko was a strong, reserved woman who loved her husband and family.  She appreciated nature, both in her own home’s backyard and at the Lenoir Nature Preserve in Yonkers, NY.  In the early days of her retirement from medicine, she spent her time reading the NY Times; studying watercolor; birding; and taking long morning walks near Wave Hill.

A memorial service for Tomiko is scheduled for 3 pm on August 2nd, at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home. Condolences can be emailed to sheila.goldman@gmail.com.
