Janet Ruth Corbin, age 81, passed away on August 26, 2022, in New York City. She was born in Springfield, Ohio, on April 10, 1941.
Janet graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield, Ohio, and Ohio State University with a BFA. Janet had many talents and interests. She was an accomplished pianist and flutist and a lifelong learner. As an artist and designer, she embraced both traditional methods as well as technology in her designs. Her work took her around the world as she developed and sourced new products. Janet’s design career started at Lazarus in Columbus, Ohio. There she moved from design trainee to senior A.S.I.D. designer with clienteles that included state and local politicians, art collectors and the Lazarus family. From Lazarus she went to Kaufmann’s in Pittsburg
and on to Gimbels in New York City. It was here that her design work transitioned into the creation of exclusive merchandise and packaging for housewares, domestics, tabletop, gifts, toys, and luggage. From there she went to Hygiene Industries expanding into management and marketing, with the design of shower curtains and new bath products. She holds numerous patents, trademarks, and copyrights. She lived in New York City for 47 years.
Janet is preceded in death by her father, Frank Corbin and mother, Ruth Meek Corbin VanMeer; her brother, David Frank Corbin; and nephew, David Allen Corbin. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Clara Corbin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; niece and great niece, Susan Tibbles and Katie Tibbles of Arvada, Colorado, and her close friends Kate and Tim Maddy, Maurice Bergman, and Schelley and Kenny Laudenbach.
Janet will be laid to rest at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in New Carlisle, Ohio. There will be no memorial service. The family suggests that memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
