Marguerite C. Acampora - September 17, 1937 - April 19, 2023
Marguerite Acampora, age 85, of Riverdale, Bronx, NY, passed away on April 19th, 2023 at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ.
Born in the Bronx, Marguerite was the daughter of the late Ralph Acampora and Teresa (Fusco) Acampora. She spent her life in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx where she attended St. Margaret’s of Cortona, then Sacred Heart of Mary and finally college at Marymount University. She was an executive assistant for Jules Stein and also worked as an Executive Assistant at the highest levels within the financial community.
Throughout her life she was selfless. She was devoted to helping her mother, Teresa, as well as being a dedicated aunt who treated her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She was known as “Zitzi” because her nephew Jay couldn’t pronounce the Italian word Zia which means aunt. It was a name that she become infamous for and stuck with her forever. Her hobbies included volunteering at the local Y, reading, knitting and gardening. She also loved spending time in the country at her Pocono home.
Marguerite was predeceased by her brother John Acampora and nephew John Acampora, Jr. She is survived by her brother Ralph (Rosemary) Acampora and sister Edith Acampora Woods.
Marguerite is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Joseph (Theresa) Acampora of Lynchburg, TN. Kathryn (Nick) Falcone and sons Nick Jr and Thomas of Yorktown Heights, NY. Ann Marie DaSilva and sons Max and Sam of Milford, CT. Jay (Christiana) Woods and children Ryan, Shannon and Kevin of Basking Ridge, NJ. Teresa “Tess” (Andy) Meyers and sons Brendan and Henry of West Roxbury, MA. Gregory Woods and daughters Max, Kaitlyn, Nicole and Lily of West Chester, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in honor of her life at St. Margaret’s of Cortona Church, 6000 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, NY on Saturday, April 29th at 9:45 AM. Private family burial will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx.
