Kathleen Marie Gavin, born in 1947 to Archibald Leo Lacy and Mary "Mazie" Lacy, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.
Kathleen grew up in Astoria, Queens, where she attended St. Francis of Assisi Elementary School before continuing her education at Blessed Sacrament High School in Manhattan. In 1978 she was appointed a NYC Corrections Officer, having a successful career and rising to the rank of Captain in 1987. She was a loyal supporter and representative of the Correction Captains Association, elected to the position of second Vice President of the union, a position she held until retirement.
In 1968, she married James Perugini and together they welcomed their son Dominick in 1977. She later married Edward Gavin.
Kathleen met Ed while both were working for the Department of Corrections. They quickly became inseparable resulting in over 20 years of adoration, respect, and love. They shared many adventures from traveling internationally to bicycling locally for pleasure and charity, often with her beloved dog Bugsy enjoying the view from the bicycle basket.
Kathleen was a true New Yorker, and enjoyed all it had to offer, especially the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. She was an avid reader and lover of language and quickly mastered daily crossword and word puzzles.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Edward Gavin; her son Dominick Perugini and his wife Catherine; and her grandchildren Dominick and Mia. Kathleen is also survived by her sister Mary Ann Sweeney; brother Edward Lacy; cousin Kelly Trainor; nephews Scott and Colin Lacy and Derek Greene; niece Hannah Lacy; and stepchildren Edward, Tara and Julie Gavin. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother James Lacy, and her uncle James Trainor.
Kathleen always had a quick smile and welcoming laugh for everyone she met.
Her life was marked by deep connections with family and friends. Her memory will be treasured by all who knew her.
May Kathleen rest in peace, and may her memory bring comfort to those who loved her.
