In Loving Memory Farewell to a Gentle Giant
Jose Anthony Guadalupe, known to family and friends as (Sonny) was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on April 17, 1950. His Mother Andrea Guadalupe and his biological father Jose Salud Quinonez, who died in the Korean War. Jose never met his biological father. Jose and his mother came to NY when he was 8 months old along with his 2 siblings from a previous marriage Sonia age 3 and William age 2. When Jose was 1 Year old, Andrea met and later married Jose F Gonzalez. Jose F. Gonzalez raised Jose (Sonny), Sonia, and William. Sonny was 1 year old when he met Jose F. Gonzalez the only father he knew and loved. Andrea and Jose F raised Sonny and 2 siblings and together they had 6 more children 2 boys and 4 girls. They raised 9 children.
Sonny was loved so much by his family and his friends. He had a beautiful kind and giving soul and a beautiful life. He had the heart of a gentle giant. He was very caring and loving towards others. He was gentle and respectful to all women. He was empathic and compassionate. He cared about those who were less fortunate than himself. He would give his money to those persons less fortunate than himself who needed it.
These past few years have been rough on us all with the deaths of our parents and older sister Sonia. Through the years Sonny kept the same smile and shine wherever he went. He loved sports, football, basketball, running, exercising, and food. He loved eating bananas and took the shirt off his back to help anyone who needed it. He loved music especially oldies, and Motown, he listened to music every day, while he watched football. Sonny was an intellectual man. He loved to read; he was employed as a Proofreader for the New York Times after college. He grew up and was educated in Warwick NY. He attended Warwick High School and graduated with honors. He attended Southern Illinois University with a football scholarship. He majored in mathematics’ and philosophy. His passion was playing football. He was a beloved football player and a track and field athletic player, winning outstanding awards for his time playing football as well as track and field. He was honored in 2018 for playing football at Warwick High school from 1966 through 1969. In 1968 through 1969 he played Running back /Defensive back and won 46 points 6 touchdowns. In 2018 he was inducted in the Warwick’s High school Hall of Fame. He was honored in 2022 for Track and field Discus & Javelin throwing.
Jose (Sonny) was a son, brother, uncle and friend. The world has lost a beautiful human being, a beautiful life. A beautiful soul who still saw the beauty in life even though he had his struggles, challenges in life. As we say our goodbyes, we will not be sad you have left, we will remember your life, love and light that will keep the world warm. Jose is survived by his 3 brothers William Lopez, Jose Gonzalez Jr, and David Gonzalez, 3 sisters Luisa M Gonzalez, Evelyn Gonzalez Guzman, and Miriam Gonzalez Garcia, and his 9 nieces and nephews. You will be forever in our hearts. We love you.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, January 21th, 2025 at 10:00 am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 91 Ludlow Street, Yonkers NY. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson NY.
